Overview
Founded in 2007, BeenVerified is a background check service that provides a collection of public record information. The brand has developed an excellent track record over the past ten years and has obtained a large customer base. The BeenVerified mobile app features over 7.000.000 downloads to date.
Plans & Pricing
Note that you can’t access the tool’s pricing until you actually try to sign up for the service. This inconvenience has been numerously reported by previous users. Also, BeenVerified uses a subscription model that has to be canceled manually, which may become another inconvenience. Unlike other SaaS tools, customers tend to use report generating software much more rarely, and forget about their subscriptions as a result.
There are two plans available:
- 1 Month Membership – $26.89, charged monthly.
- 3 Month Membership – $17.48 for each month, billed every three months.
Both plans include unlimited reports for all the available report types, and an option to get notified when your reports get updated. While the pricing is fair, there is no free trial, cancellation period, or money-back guarantee for neither plan. There is a possibility to ask for a refund, but BeenVerified handles refunds on a case to case basis, meaning that they may decline your request depending on the circumstances.
How it works
As you login to your account, you find yourself on the dashboard. The well-designed UI conveniently combines all your reports, account information, and personal data monitoring activities in a single place. Here are the details of each tab:
Identity Hub – The identity hub can be used to monitor your online identity, detect unauthorized access to your email, and set up a neighborhood watch. Your online identity includes phone numbers, emails, social media profiles, and properties. The neighborhood watch can be used to obtain photos, addresses, convictions, and other information within a 5-mile radius of your searched address (popular searches among regular users include home, office, schools, etc.), including the list of registered sex offenders.
Recent Reports – Here you’ll find all of the reports you have searched for, including those that you didn’t download.
Unclaimed Money – If a business owes you money but can’t get in touch with you, they sometimes turn it to the state government. As a rule, states keep that money safe until it is claimed by the rightful owner. This feature allows you to search the records for any unclaimed money for yourself or your relatives, and file a claim to get it back.
Monitoring – You can select up to 10 reports to get notified whenever an update is available for any of them. The notification is sent to you via email, and you can also get a monthly recap on all the changes. You simply need to enable the monitoring option at the top of the report you want to keep an eye on.
My Account – This tab briefly describes everything you’re able to do with your subscription and allows you to edit personal information like name, email, phone number, account password, and payment options. It also has your membership ID, which is required for the cancellation of your membership.
Ease of use
BeenVerified is extremely straightforward. The neatly organized UI shows everything you need, right where you want it. A big problem of usability is the absence of pricing information on the brand’s website. It has caused a lot of confusion among customers and led to many angry reports online.
However, once you log in, things get a lot better. The tool works well and doesn’t take long to fetch information from all available sources. There is a catch, though: the reports cannot legally be used to research employees or make hiring decisions based on the information received. The same is true for insurance, credit, loans, education, and housing since the company isn’t officially a consumer reporting agency.
User Privacy
While there have been numerous complaints concerning incorrect information in reports and criminal records, there have been no known cases of personal data thefts or breaches. BeenVerified is an “HTTPS” website and has obtained the “Norton Secured Seal”.
Special Features
The brand offers pretty standard features when it comes to background search websites. Some features that users might be most interested in include:
- Unclaimed Money: As described above, the unclaimed money search helps you find money that you otherwise might not realize that you are owed.
- Data Breach Scan: This scan monitors your email and notifies you when there is a detected breach involving your personal data.
- Neighborhood Watch: This feature keeps you abreast of sex offenders in the area. Areas that you can keep tabs on include your home, your workplace, and even schools.
- Mobile App: Mobile apps are available for iOS, Android, and even Apple Watch so that public records are always on hand for you.
- PDF Reports: You can easily download your reports to PDF files and save them to your computer.
- Alerts: Set up alerts on the people you search so that you’ll be aware as soon as new information is available.
Pros & Cons
- Well-organized user interface
- Multiple report types available
- Numerous data sources
- Great desktop and mobile apps
- No transparent pricing or free trial
- Limited usability of the reports (for example, can't use for employment screens)
- Numerous complaints about difficult cancellations
Customer Service
BeenVerified’s customer support is mediocre. A large number of previous customers have reported numerous cases regarding their poor experience with the brand’s customer support team. While the company has taken means to set things right, many are still dissatisfied. The majority of the complaints concern double credit card charges, the membership cancellation process, and the quality of the service.
The customer support team can be reached every day from 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM, EST, via the phone or email.
-
Phone Support
BeenVerified can be reached via a dedicated toll-free number found on their contact page. -
Email
The customer support team has a dedicated email where you can send all your queries. -
Video Tutorials
There are a few videos available on the brand’s YouTube channel. -
FAQ
The FAQ section is well-organized and provides answers to common questions, including payments, return policies, product reviews, desktop and mobile apps, etc. -
Blog
The blog is updated rather frequently, but inconsistently (about 4-6 articles in 10 days), and it features topics related to scam protection, fraud alerts, social engineering, malware bots, website security, etc.
Final Word
Despite the many dissatisfied customer reports regarding BeenVerified, it gets the job done at a reasonable price and is very easy to use. Both the UI and UX of the tool are great, and all the features have good use cases. However, the fact that you can’t legally use the information acquired to determine a person’s eligibility for employment, insurance, credit, loans, and education is a big downside. This means that you’ll basically be using the tool to monitor your home’s and workplace surroundings, get information on reported sex offenders, and find people, phones, and emails.
While this isn’t bad, it may not be worth it for businesses to set up a regular subscription, even when considering the low price. If you’re looking to find a missing relative or a friend’s contact information, BeenVerified can help you. However, if you’re looking for a reliable customer/employee reporting source, you may want to look elsewhere.
